An overview of Montserrat
An overview of Montserrat
Montserrat Monastery is a religious pilgrimage destination for thousands of visitors each year. If you want to experience more than a tourist trip to Montserrat you may want to organise a spiritual retreat. The Spanish for retreat is 'retiro spiritual'. Retreats to Montserrat are not a commercial venture, so if you wish to organise to take part in one, you will need to speak to the religious arm of Montserrat's team.

On this page you will receive information on how to arrange a retreat at Montserrat.

Can I attend a retreat at Montserrat?

Anybody can attend a retreat at Montserrat. However, this will be at the discretion of the monks themselves at the Centro de Coordinacion Pastoral. The Centro de Coordinacion Pastoral is a wing of Montserrat's administrative team who deal with all aspects linked to religion and spirituality at Montserrat. Each request for a retreat is taken on its own merit. Therefore you will need to contact the Centro de Coordinacion Pastoral and state your individual case to them.

How to organise a retreat at Montserrat monastery

Organising a retreat to Montserrat is different to organising any of the other tours at Montserrat. Non-spiritual trips to Montserrat are dealt with by the 'Central de Reservas de Montserrat' (see below for contact details). However, if you would like to attend a spiritual retreat you will need to make the request directly to the Monks at the Centro de Coordinacion Pastoral. You can either call them (there is no guarantee that they will be able to speak your language) or send them an e-mail.

The Monks will deal with each request individually and will supply you with more information regarding what you will need to do to come on a retreat to Montserrat.
