Whilst at Montserrat you will find that there are a selection of restaurant options to cater to various budgets and tastes. There are two sit-down, formal restaurants: Restaurant Montserrat and Restaurant Abat Cisneros. There are also two more affordable, canteen style options: La Cafeteria and the Self-Service Restaurant. There is also a bar that serves food. If you would like to organise your own little picnic there is a small supermarket and some market stalls selling local produce. Plus there is an area with picnic tables to sit and enjoy your food.

Restaurants in Montserrat
There are two restaurants in Montserrat (both listed below). They both serve different styles of food and cater to different tastes and group sizes - read on for more details.

This restaurant is located in the 'Mirador dels Apostols' building, next to the car park. This building acts at a vantage point for Montserrat Monastery and the mountains that surround it. So, from the restaurant you have the possibility to experience some panoramic views of the surrounding area - including the Santa Cova and Llobregat valley. The building was designed by Father Pere Busquets.
The restaurant specialises in group bookings and can be booked for occasions. The most spacious room in the restaurant seats up to 1200 people and is 850 m2.

The style of the food at Restaurant Montserrat is Mediterranean cuisine: you can either order from an a la carte menu or a set menu.

Restaurant Abat Cisneros

Restaurant Abat Cisneros forms part of the Hotel Abat Cisneros. It is a smaller and more personal restaurant than Restaurant Montserrat - perhaps more suitable if you are booking as part of a smaller group. The restaurant sits inside a building that used to be the stables for the monastery in the 16th century. One of Restaurant Abat Cisnero's most appealing features is its stone arch ceiling.
Despite being smaller than Restaurant Montserrat, Restaurant Abat Cisneros still offers group bookings. There are two rooms: Salo de Pedra and Salo Rosa. Collectively they hold 220 diners.

The style of the food at Restaurant Abat Cisneros is traditional Catalan cuisine. Expect to see hearty seafood and meat dishes on the menu. You can either order from an a la carte menu or a set menu.

Cafes and bars in Montserrat
Bar de la Plaça in Montserrat

Bar de la Plaça is a laid back bar-cafe in the heart of Montserrat. There is seating at the bar, plus some outdoor tables to stand at during the warmer months. You can pop in here at any point through out the day whether you are after a quick coffee, a sandwich or a hamburger.
Bar de la Plaça is only open from March until November.
Food available at Bar de la Plaça:
Bar de la Plaça sells snack food: hot and cold sandwiches, hamburgers, cakes, coffees, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
How to book Bar de la Plaça:
It is not possible to book a meal at Bar de la Plaça.
La Cafeteria in Montserrat

La Cafeteria is a large open-plan eating area. The food is served on the ground floor and there is seating on both the ground and first floors. There are two areas to La Cafeteria - the self service area called 'Servei Express' and an area called 'Canteen' where warm food is served.
Food available at La Cafeteria:
The style of the food at La Cafeteria is fast food - both hot and cold. In the self service area you will find hot and cold sandwiches, chips, pastries and hot and cold drinks. In the canteen area there are full meals available such as chicken and chips, sausage stew and soup of the day. There are also desserts and drinks.
If you are travelling to Montserrat on the rack railway there are some combination tickets (tickets that cover travel and other attractions at the Monastery) that include the price of a lunch. Self- service Restaurant in Montserrat

This self service restaurant is located next to the Restaurant Montserrat (see above) in the Mirador dels Apostols building, next to the car park at Montserrat Monastery. The dining room offers views of the Llobregat valley and the mountains surrounding Montserrat. A large seating area allows you to choose where you would like to sit in dining hall spaces.
Food at the Self-Service Restaurant
Self-Service Montserrat serves a range of Mediterranean style hot and cold food. You can choose from fridges packed with salads and sandwich. Or you can take your pick from hot plates serving seasonal hot meals. Prices are similar to those at La Cafeteria (see above).

Food shopping in Montserrat
The views and generous amount of outdoor seating at Montserrat make picnicking on the mountain an attractive option. If you wish to buy some picnic ingredients whilst you are at Montserrat, there is both a small supermarket and some market stalls selling local produce.
There is a designated picnic area at Montserrat. This is to be found on the terrace area of the Mirador dels Apostols building. Here you can enjoy views of the mountains whilst sitting at picnic tables.
It is important to remember that Montserrat is at the top of a tall mountain. On arriving at Montserrat you will notice a significant temperature drop from that at the bottom of the mountain. It is worth bearing this in mind if you are planning a picnic - even if it feels like comfortable outdoor weather at the foot of the mountain, it will be a lot breezier and chillier at the top. Only bring a picnic if you feel confident that the weather will be pleasant enough to enjoy some al fresco dining.
Queviures Supermarket in Montserrat
There is a small supermarket in Montserrat where you can buy basic supplies. It sells bread, local produce, drinks and confectionary. The prices are slightly higher than those that you might expect to find in a normal city supermarket, however they are not too inflated.
Market stalls at Montserrat

Opposite the Mirador dels Apostols building at Montserrat you will find a row of stalls of local suppliers selling regional specialities. You can either buy the produce as gifts to bring home for family and friends, or you can buy them as part of your picnic. You will find local honeys, cheese and fig cakes. The real local speciality is a type of fresh cheese called 'Mato'. You can buy it in little pots and eat it with a spoon and some local honey.

The market stalls do not have formal opening times. However, we spoke to a cross-section of the stall owners who explained that they are generally there from the times below.
